Efficiency and cost-effective positive nutritional outcomes are critical for success in today’s healthcare environment. CMS is replacing the current SNF PPS Resource Utilization Group (RUGs) payment model used in nursing homes with the per-diem payment system called the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM). PDPM October 1, 2019 and supports payment of services related to several common nutrition conditions and nutrition-related extensive services.
RDNs/NDTRs play a critical role in helping healthcare facilities manage the PDPM model in a collaborative “team” effort for success. This session will explore CMS criteria that must be included in medical record documentation and facility processes to receive proper reimbursement for provision of services. This session will also present how to assist facilities in recognizing potential revenue related to malnutrition with adequate RDN/NDTR hours and resources.
